California Sunshine
How’s the weather where you are?
For those here in Utah, we have been hitting record snow totals. For many that means missing work, or school, or icy commutes. For me, it means uninterrupted time in the studio to do some California dreaming and painting 🙂
“A Walk in the Sunshine” is painted from earlier studies done on location at Point Loma. The landscape was full of golden yellow flowers. The white light light house was particularly charming as it reflected the warm sunshine and surrounding landscape
Further up the coast in Carmel and Monterey are the rocky cliffs that drop dramatically into the ocean and sweeping cypress. It’s not hard to see why the landscape is an Artists’ paradise.
In “Coastal Cypress” the lone cypress seemed so elegantly posed against the back drop of the distant cliffs. The coastal light cascaded through the lacey trees creating a dappled pattern on the ground below.
If you climb to just the right spot on Monastery beach in Carmel, you will be able to find a gorgeous view of the beach, Carmelite Monastery of St. Therese, and surrounding hills.
“Monastery Beach” painted at a favorite time of the day when the orange California spring poppies contrast elegantly against the blue ocean. With all the moisture in the atmosphere it creates an even greater illusion of depth as the landscape recedes and brushwork softens in the distance.
One of the challenges of painting something as iconic as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco is creating something unique. “Golden Hour” offered an exciting view as the typically red bridge, turned shades of purple making a graceful silhouette against the orange and blue evening sky. The colors of the sky sublimely reflected in the ocean waters and crashing waves.
Alicia, I hope these winter months are treating you well. Drop me a line and let me know how you are doing. What do you think of my new paintings?
Warm Regards,
Alicia
